Bioeconomics and Agrο-nutrition

Description

The term and content of the bioeconomy arose from the pressure of global challenges, related to the existence and use of renewable biological resources such as: agricultural production, food, marine wealth, energy demand, etc. According to the EU definition, the bioeconomy includes sectors of the economy that use renewable biological resources and their conversion (excluding waste and by-products) into value-added products. The main goal set by the EU is to promote a strong bioeconomy that will enable Europe to live within its means. The development of the bioeconomy in the EU promoted through various policies. In Greece, both bioeconomics research and information and promotion policies lag behind at national and regional level.

Objectives

This proposal aims to help fill this gap by including the work section "WU1. Organic Economics and Agro-nutrition», wwith the aim of identifying and investigating the bioeconomy and its synergy with agro-food in the region of Western Macedonia, as well as identifying its development potential locally through the assessment of socio-economic impacts. With appropriate methodologies (Input-Output Analysis, quantitative and qualitative research) the branches of the bioeconomy will be determined and then its level in Greece and the region of Western Macedonia and its contribution to socio-economic indicators (employment, production, incomes) will be investigated. in a framework of general equilibrium. At the same time, its synergy with the agri-food industry and its contribution will be examined, while through primary research in Western Macedonia, the adoption of the bioeconomy and the ways of its promotion will be explored. The results will be a guide for its promotion and a tool for the development of the region. At the same time, innovative actions will be carried out in two axes, agriculture and intelligent animal husbandry.
